Nintendo Wii Most Requested: The Top 5 Last Week

Wii Super Mario Strikers Charged

With Wii still topping all the sales charts, the business at online game rental company GameFly must be shooting through the roof.  The company has released their list of the top five Nintendo Wii titles that were requested for the week ending July 30th, and the hottest game is not surprising in the least.

Mario Strikers Charged, which released this week, is in the big kahuna once again this week as the most requested title for Nintendo’s console.  Next up is another repeat performance of Capcom’s Resident Evil 4.  Nobody can resist the concept of playing RE with a Wiimote, it would appear.

In the middle of the pack is the highly anticipated addition to the Metroid Prime franchise, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.  This one comes out in a couple of weeks, and is pretty much guaranteed to be a runaway hit.    Fourth is Mario Party 8, because by law, there must be at least one party title on the list.  And last up is Sega’s Alien Syndrome.  The RPG has only received medicore reviews to date, but people still want it nonetheless.

50 More Nintendo Wii Virtual Console Games By Years’ End

Wii Virtual Console titles

If you’re one of the millions of people who enjoy downloading Nintendo Wii Virtual Console titles, then the news of 50 more games coming by the end of 2007 will certainly be welcome news.

“Wii already boasts more than 180 games, including 120 downloadable Virtual Console titles,” the company boasted in a recent press release.

“By the end of the year, that total number will climb to about 330 games, including an additional 100 new titles from every major third-party publisher, along with an additional 50 Virtual Console classics.”

But it’s actually not as great news as it would appear.  According to the calculations of Game Life, there’s only twenty-two Mondays left in 2007.  That makes averages out to 2.3 releases per week, which isn’t exactly world-breaking.    However, it’s certainly possible that Nintendo was just shooting for a nice even number and that the tally will be higher by the time 2008 rings in.

Cho Talks Nintendo Wii TUMUKI Fighters Additions

Wii Tumuki FightersBlast Works is a recently announced Wii title by Majesco that’s an update of the 2004 abstract side scrolling game TUMUKI Fighters.

The Nintendo Wii version is due to come out the first quarter of 2008.  If you want to see what the original game was like, you can download the freeware version for Windows here.

The website Siliconera recently interviewed the Kenta Cho, the original creator.  He’s quite interested in the changes that are being made to his TUMUKI Fighters.

What do you think of the additions to TUMIKI Fighters like the Wii remote airport hangar and the ship editor?

I’m really interested in the additions to the Wii version. Since the original TUMIKI Fighters is very simple shmup, additional new features are essential for making it up into a full game. I don’t know details of features such as the hangar and the editor but they sound very interesting. The only thing that concerns me is whether the game becomes too complicated to play by adding these features. I like a simple and intuitive gameplay.

You’re well known for creating bullet patterns. Does Blast Works for the Wii use your custom patterns from TUMIKI Fighters?

In TUMIKI Fighters, I only used typical bullet patterns in modern bullet-hell type shmups, so these patterns may be used also in Blast Works. I know some patterns are too difficult to avoid for people who aren’t familiar with Japanese maniac shmups and more moderated patterns may be needed for earlier stages..

Wii VC Gets ‘Crushed’ This Week

Wii Devil's Crush

We always get to know what’s coming on the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console before Monday, due to Hudson Entertainment always jumping the gun on their listings.  And we’re always quite thankful for it.

Monday’s offering will be Devil’s Crush, a TurboGrafx 16 pinball title which will cost the usual 600 Wii Points.  The title was developed by NAXAT Soft and was originally released in 1990.  It is the sequel to Alien Crush, and prequel to Dragon’s Revenge.

Main Stage: Press (2) to shoot the ball, then keep the ball in play by using the left and right flippers. Keep the ball from falling and hit various spots on the stage to obtain a high score. The Main Stage is comprised of a top, middle, and bottom screen. Even if you miss and drop a ball from the top or middle screen, it moves to the next lower one. If you drop the ball on the bottom screen, it counts as a miss. Once you run out of balls, it’s game over.

Only 24 hours to go until we get to go all “Tommy” on this one!
