Xbox 360 has achievements, PS3 gamers will have online trophies, but there has been no word of Wii having any sort similar reward system. Until now.
According to a poster of the GameFAQ forums, Metroid Prime 3 is going to break new ground on Nintendo Wii in this department.
Interesting part of the game that I had no idea even existed. If you accomplish small tasks in the game, you are awarded with bonus tokens. These tokens come in four colors: Red, Blue, Green, and Gold. Red tokens are given as you scan a certain number of enemies/items. Blue tokens are given for scanning lore and accomplishing side tasks. Green I believe are when friends give you vouchers, more on that later. Gold tokens are given for beating bosses on various difficulties. You use the tokens to unlock hidden content in the extras menu. The final type of token is the “friend voucher”. Basically these are given for accomplishing some type of cool accomplishment in the game.
The poster goes on to say that “apparently send these ‘achievements’ to your friends, and they give them green tokens.” Also, there’s allegedly a “Friend Roster” option and a “Configure Wii Connect 24″ option on the menu to back up the argument.
Naturally, it’s completely unsubstantiated at this point. But, if true, this could be a turning point for online play on the console.

The Wii blue light has been glowing once again, indicating that there’s yet another system update available.
Unlike the last one, this Nintendo Wii update is much less exciting.
Apparently, the blue light special fixes a glitch with the Wii’s Opera browser. We weren’t really aware of this glitch, but it seems that some people have had their system crash whilst using the browser. Supposedly, this will happen no more.
Additionally, it also adds some stability to the Wii LAN adapter, which we also didn’t know was having problems. But even if this update didn’t affect us this time around, if it makes your life even slighter more improved, than we’re all for it.

Is there a Wii FPS in the works from Free Radical, the masterminds behind Haze?
It may not be as far-fetched as one might imagine. While talking to the website Kotaku, the subject of Wii came up. Free Radical Design’s Rob Yescombe and Derek Littlewood gushed about the console.
From Kotaku:
While on the topic of Nintendo, I asked the two what the thought of the Wii in general and if they’d ever make a game for it.
“Let’s just say there is a Wii in the office,” Yescombe said laughing.
Littlewood said on a personal level he is intrigued with the new form of control the Wii offer to both gamers and developers.
“Personally, as a gamer, I think it has definite potential (as a first-person shooter controller),” he said. “It can be done, you can get really great FPS controls with the Wii. I think it has huge potential there.”
So do we, guys. So do we.

The Wii Shop will be graced with Galaga ‘90 as one of the Virtual Console titles available when the Nintendo Wii channel is updated Monday morning.
If the name sounds right but the year sounds wrong, have no fear. It’s the same exact thing as Galaga ‘88, the TurboGrafx-16 classic was just renamed outside of Japan.
How is the one different from the original immortalized by Matthew Broderick in WarGames? Here’s a brief overview courtesy of Wikipedia:
Galaga ‘88 introduces a variety of new enemies and behaviors. Most special enemies score varying amounts of bonus points when destroyed. Some can combine into larger enemies that take multiple hits to destroy, while others arrive in eggs, explode in a shower of fireworks, grow with multiple hits, or sport armor that makes them invincible while in formation. Certain ones drop small formations of tiny creatures that wiggle their way down the screen, and still others act as escorts to incoming groups and then quickly dive at the player before leaving the playfield. Most stages also include various obstacles that appear once the enemy formation has been assembled.

A new character has been added to the roster in the upcoming Wii sensation Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The news comes straight from the Dojo:
“From Fire Emblem, Ike appears! The fact that he can wield a two-handed sword with a single hand is a testament to his magnificent strength. He brings his special move “Aether” with him as he crashes the Brawl party. Try for a single-stroke finishing blow with his mighty blade!”
It may be cliche to say, but we like Ike. A lot.
A few more pics of Ike can be found here.
