Nintendo Wii: Get To The Choppa!

WiiWhat’s a kid to do if he owns a Wii but what his parents won’t let him get what he really wants this holiday season, namely, a mini helicopter?

Thankfully, Aksys Games has come up with a solution — now we can all play with as many mini helicopters as we want on Nintendo Wii!

Think how many eyes will be saved from blade-related blindings.

“MiniCopter: Adventure Flight is a great game for budding RC modelers and children who enjoy playing with RC toys,” said Akibo Shieh, President, Aksys Games. “MiniCopter allows kids to customize their ‘copter without worrying about breaking their toy and seeing immediate results.”

Below are the features of the upcoming title, with a lot of exclamation points by an overexcited publicist.

* Mission based gameplay! Engage in 42 missions in 7 different environments from a child’s bedroom, hospital, hotel room and more! Use your air cannon and lift suction to discover hidden areas and coins.

* Customize your RC Helicopter! Outfit your helicopter with a variety of body kits and parts that can alter the performance of your heli and improve your scores in Mission Mode.

* Player Split Screen Mode! Battle against your friend in a Race for the Rings Mode to see who’s the best helicopter pilot!

* Customizable Controls! Choose from the Wii Remote tilt, pointer controls or play with a Classic Controller!

MiniCopter: Adventure Flight will be hovering over the shelves in Spring ‘08.

Nintendo Wii Commits A Double Dribble

Wii goes to the hoopThe Wii VC is bringing back Double Dribble, one of the greatest titles to every hit NES.  Admittedly, back in 1987, the options for basketball were limited at best.  But trust us…back then, it was best way to get your hoops fix.

Here’s the lineup of what’s on the Nintendo Wii Shop channel this lovely Monday:

DOUBLE DRIBBLE (NES, 500 Points):The first 5-on-5, full-court home basketball game is pure hoops action at its finest. While still a surprisingly accurate basketball game for its time, the frantic action keeps you on your toes as your players run from one end of the court to the other. Choose from a handful of teams and multiple levels of difficulty as you take on the computer alone or challenge a friend and see who has the better skills. Take the ball and sink shots from locations all over the court, or get in your opponent’s face and do your best to block the shot. Better yet, drive the lane and rock the rim to see one of the game’s trademark slam-dunk cut scenes. He shoots, he scores!

Vegas Stakes (Super NES, 800 Points): Feel like taking a road trip to Las Vegas? Let your inner high roller go wild as you try your luck at five different games-blackjack, slots, poker, craps and roulette. Start with only $1,000 in your pocket and play your way through five casinos, each with a different theme and varying limits. But no one wants to gamble alone, right? Not a problem, as you’ll be able to choose one of four friends to tag along and offer advice when you need it. Further enhancing the experience is the fact that you’ll be presented with a slew of interactions with random casino patrons. Best be careful, though-your choices in these situations could either get you closer to the millions of dollars you’re after or cost you a pile of that hard-earned cash. Roll the dice, spin the wheel, hit or stand-do whatever it takes to stake your claim in Vegas and beat the house!

Ecco Jr. (Sega Genesis, 800 Wii Points): The aquatic adventures of Ecco come to life for a younger generation of gamers. Perfect for kids, Ecco Jr. finds our young hero heading out to sea with a variety of tasks he must perform in order to get there. Along with his friends Tara the baby orca and Kitnee the young Atlantic dolphin, Ecco Jr. will interact with sea lions, sea horses and other aquatic life as he makes his journey to the Big Blue. Introduce your kids to the classic series of Ecco the Dolphin titles by downloading Ecco Jr. today.

Nintendo Wii Gets Hit By Wrecking Crew

Wii Wrecking Crew

Wii got hit by the Wrecking Crew Monday, along with Super Air Zonk and Sonic 3D Blast on the Virtual Console.

Wrecking Crew is a lesser known NES title which happens to feature a character you may have heard of — Mario.  For only 500 points, isn’t it worth a shot just to see what the heck it is?

Here’s the description of the latest Nintendo Wii VC titles, courtesy of the Big N:

Wrecking Crew™ (NES, 500 Points): In the days before Mario and Luigi became sports stars in their downtime between plumbing and saving the Princess, they tried their hands as one-man wrecking crews. With a hammer as their only tool, players take control of the brothers and set out to destroy ladders, rip out pipes, knock down walls and detonate explosive devices. But make sure to plan your path of destruction carefully, as each building is designed as its own clever puzzle—if you’re not careful, you can easily trap yourself in a dead end. Adding to the excitement and challenge are fireballs, enemies and an angry foreman roaming the buildings. They’re all trying to stop you from moving on to the next stage. With 100 buildings to demolish and the ability to construct your own, it’s a wonder Mario and Luigi ever got back to saving the Mushroom Kingdom.

Sonic 3D Blast™ (Sega Genesis, 800 Points): The evil Dr. Eggman (aka Dr. Robotnik) stumbles upon an alternate dimension where some odd birds called Flickies have the ability to travel anywhere. In order to get help in his search for the Chaos Emeralds, Dr. Eggman transforms the Flickies into robots that will help him track down his coveted gems. Of course, it’s up to our favorite blue hedgehog, Sonic, to step in and save the day. Jump into this 3-D adventure as Sonic or his buddy Tails, and collect the golden rings to help free the Flickies and defeat the doctor.

Super Air Zonk (TurboGrafx16 CD-ROM, 800 Points): Zonk is back in Super Air Zonk, the sequel to the shooting game spin-off Air “Zonk.” Now moving to a rockabilly beat and able to transform into nine different characters, Zonk lets loose through seven action-packed stages in another battle against his arch nemesis, SandroVitch. Power upZonk with the classic Meat item, eventually turning him into the champion of justice, Ultra Zonk, or the fearsome Tyrano in the latter stages of the game. After rescuing his friends from enemies, Zonk can also morph with them to combine powers. Fight enemies with killer tunes belted out from a trusty microphone. Hurl freshly made sushi at them. With its variety of wacky attacks, SAZ has a sense of humor all its own.

Nintendo Wii Sits Alone In The Dark

Wii Alone In The DarkAtari has just made it official — Alone In The Dark will now be coming to Wii and PS2, having been originally announced for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

The Wii storyline promises to be the same as for the platforms, where the action takes place over one busy apocalyptic night, where the player must uncover the earth-shattering secret hidden in New York’s iconic Central Park.  We suspect it’s not mutant alligators.

On the Wii, the control system is specially adapted to make full use of the Remote and Nunchuck to manipulate objects in real-time, a key gameplay feature of Alone in the Dark, enhancing the player’s immersion in the experience.

“Realising the enormous ambition of AitD is a huge technological challenge, which becomes even more demanding on Wii and PlayStation 2,” said Mathias Hautefort, Executive Vice President of publishing and production.

“However, we’re certain players will be impressed with what Hydravision have achieved on the two consoles, not least with the Wiig ame which is perfectly adapted to the gameplay thanks to the console’s unique controllers.”

A final release date has yet to be officially announced.

Aonuma Talks Next Wii Zelda & Potential Classic Remake

Wii Zelda future and pastTwilight Princess on Wii is possibly the best Zelda title to ever hit the gaming universe, but it’s time to start thinking about what’s next in the franchise.

Eiji Aonuma discussed what’s on his mind for the next Wii Zelda with Official Nintendo Magazine UK and he expressed an interest in going back to past.

“I have to say though, the first Zelda game that I played and felt potential in was Link to the Past. I’m actually very interested in what it would be like if we remade that title as a 3D game,” he told the magazine.

LTTP was the third installment in the series and was a monster hit for SNES in the early 1990’s.  The game was later ported to GBA, and recently, to the Virtual Console.

Alas, a remake probably isn’t what’s next on the table.  But as far the graphics for the next one, expect the unexpected.  He wouldn’t commit to the look of the future title, stating that it pretty much depends on what visual style will best work with the story and gameplay. But he teased that the graphical style could possibly be one that hasn’t even been thought of yet.
