Lightweight Talks Nintendo DS Eco-Creatures: Save the Forest

The Nintendo DS title Eco-Creatures: Save the Forest is certainly a noble effort.  The game revolves around the earth friendly concept of saving seeds and planting trees.

Dreamstation.cc recently got a chance to chat with project director Masakazu Tagawa of Lightweight Co. about why the title is important.

“I think that it’s important to bring such modern day environmental issues to the attention of people through as many different mediums as possible, whether it be films, books or games,” Tagawa explained.

“We didn’t take inspiration from any specific source such as a book or a film, but we knew we wanted to make a game that had a fantasy feel and a slow pace,” he added.

So why did Lightweight choose the DS and not Sony’s PSP?

“Obviously the touch interface of the DS is a big factor as it is well suited to genres such as RTS,” he confessed.

The Latest Turrican Hits Wii VC

North America received Super Turrican on the Wii Virtual Console early this month; this time it’s Europe’s turn to get the latest Turrican.

Sega Mega Drive’s Mega Turrican has arrived overseas and will cost 800 Wii Points.

“In terms of action, Mega Turrican has few rivals on Sega’s machine; with the exception of Gunstar Heroes, this is easily the most action-packed platform shooter available for the console, and the sheer amount of destruction occurring on-screen pushes the host hardware to breaking point,” raves VC Reviews.

The title has yet to be announced for North American release.  However, it received an ESRB rating last December, so it’s definitely on the way at some point.

NIS Talks Disgaea: Hour of Darkness On Nintendo DS

Almost six years after the original first hit PlayStation 2, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness is finally coming to DS.

So why the decision to bring the title to Nintendo’s handheld after all this time?

“The reason why we’re going to release Disgaea for DS is simply because our fans demanded it…If the fans want Disgaea on DS, then they shall get it,” declared NIS America PR Manager Jack Niida to the website Crispy Gamer.

A port of the game was also released on PSP last year, and NIS won’t be skimping on the content.

“Not only will the DS version have all the contents from the PSP version, it will have more, so there’s quite a bit of game play. It’s going to be one heck of a handheld game,” he added.

No announcement has been made for bringing number two over as well, but Niida did acknowledge that he’d love to see that one on a handheld as well.

Nintendo Wii VC Goes Spelunkin’

The Wii VC has two, count ‘em, two titles this week.  Glad to see that Nintendo is finally getting semi-consistent with a duo per Monday as opposed to those solo deals.

Last month, eagle-eyed gamers noticed that the ESRB had added Spelunker to their plethora of titles.

And it wasn’t just for nothing — the classic NES title has now hit the Virtual Console for 500 Points.  This one’s older than I am — it was born in 1983 for the old Atari systems, then got the port treatment for Commodore 64 and NES.

Next up is SUPER R-TYPE, which debuted on Super Nintendo in 1991.  It’s your typical side scrolling shooter and will set you back 800 Points due to its higher pedigree.

And on the docket for next week…who knows?  We used to get a good idea because Hudson would list its TurboGrafx-16 titles in advance, but the last Hudson TG-16 game we saw was Psychosis back in on 2/25.  So your guess is as good as ours.

Hulk Reboots On Nintendo Wii, DS, Every Other Platform

Ang Lee’s vision of Stan Lee’s Hulk arrived in 2003 to decent box office, but it also received a great deal of scorn from people that felt that he didn’t do the big green guy justice.

So now it’s 2008, and Dr. Banner and his alter ego are getting the reboot treatment.  Gone are Ang Lee, Eric Bana, and Jennifer Connelly, and in are Louis Leterrier, Edward Norton, and Liv Tyler.  And even more interesting is the addition of Tim Roth, who will be Hulk’s nemesis Abomination.

Enough of the movie history — there’s a new video game coming as well, and it’s going to hit Wii, DS, PS3, Xbox 360, and pretty much ever other viable platform that’s out there.

And what makes this one oh-so-hulkier?  Here are the key features:

• Unlimited Destruction: Become the Incredible Hulk and experience unlimited destruction. Players can demolish anything in their path and also use it as a weapon – pieces of a crumbling building…a passing car…a street lamp. Players can even demolish buildings with their bare hands. Damage is persistent, and gamers can use it to gain access to previously unreachable areas.

• Powerful Rage: Rage is power. Build the Hulk’s rage to learn powerful moves. Cause unheard-of damage to gain and upgrade his abilities.

• Incredible Scale: New York City’s towering skyscrapers allow for exciting vertically based gameplay, while powerful, massive enemies such as Bi-Beast and the Abomination challenge the Hulk’s might.

• Dynamic Open World: A realistic next-gen, open-world representation of Manhattan provides gamers with an immense playground of destruction that also contains sub-quests, minigames, and a story that reaches beyond the film to include elements from classic Marvel comics.

Sega’s “intensely realistic” third person title is scheduled for multiplatform release in June.
