Amazon’s Kindle 2 Has Been Spotted In The Wild

Amazon’s Kindle first hit the scene last November and if the new screenshots by The Boy Genius Report are the real deal, it looks like a new improved model will be before long.
As is apparent from the above shot, the new version will be slightly larger in both length and width. However, the Kindle 2 screen size is almost exactly the same. Instead of the clickwheel, it looks like Amazon has moved to a joystick, which their source describes as taking a little while to get the hang of.
Kindle’s buttons used to cause some frustrating accidental page turns, but this time around the buttons will be slightly larger in order to avoid jumping the gun. Another perk is that Amazon has ditched their own charger and the unit will be chargeable with a generic miniUSB cable.
No pricing information has been released to date, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that K2 will be a bit more friendly to the wallet. After all, an e-book reader, as cool as it may be, really shouldn’t cost more than a PlayStation 3.
More details and a plethora of screenshots can be found at The Boy Genius Report.

If new Kindle II is the real deal, it will be too bad. My kindle I is just the right size (bigger would not be better), i like the angled sides, as they fit perfectly with my fingers when holding it to read. I would hate to lose access to the SD card, which i currently keep my own manuscripts on. As for exchanging the AC charger for UBS, that would seem to be a problem if one is traveling.
Personally, I hope its all an urban myth and that Kindle will not scramble a really nice design. Yes, a bit of help to prevent accidental page-turning, and a way to organize one’s library using the equivalent of folder would be nice. But bigger, more square, less options, such as loss of external SD card and a charger that require computer access, would not be an improvement in my opinion.
Glad i bought two, so i can ride it out until Kindle 3 comes along.
